The Francisan Promo Post

Today I am happy to be featuring another great book on my blog, The Franciscan by WR. Park!   The most internationally anticipated religious suspense-thriller since Dan Brown’s Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code, WR.PARK’s The Franciscan is now available for sale on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and CreateSpace. Written 14 years ago, The Franciscan eerily forebodes current events in the Vatican predicting the coming of the current Pope Francis and proves to be a timely novel more than a decade after it was penned. This is the first book in The Franciscan Trilogy.

Synopsis:

“The pope is not infallible.” When the newly elected Pope Francis utters this bold and unprecedented statement, he captures the attention of the world’s population. His reforms leave no corner untouched as he strips away the mask so long held before the face of the papacy. Bringing with him and open-minded candor rarely seen by public figures – he’s an inspiration to his followers – and a threat to those who oppose him.

“When I penned this novel about a fictitious Pope Francis fourteen years ago, I never envisioned that a future pope would select the name, Pope Francis I. This novel’s Pope Francis is a bold and courageous pope whose sweeping reforms reversing ancient Vatican edicts place his life in grave danger. The world can only hope and pray that today’s Pope Francis, as bold as he is, will be fruitful in his endeavors and have a lengthy and healthy reign,” said WR.PARK.

Book Excerpt:
NEARLY A WEEK HAD PASSED since Symon's discovery, and he had read the translated manuscripts numerous times.  He consumed the written words as a dying man gasps for breath.  The mystery surrounding the ancient narrative fueled his imagination and stimulated his craving to know more.  While he sat by the opening of the cave, the sun warmed his body, and meditation purified his soul.  What could have been Assuri's last words on earth, and the narrative of his days at the Library of Alexandria bewitched him beyond belief.
“Somewhere,” he thought.  “Somewhere between the lines, somewhere hidden within Assuri's journal could be a clue to a far greater treasure.  A treasure that has  eluded humankind for thousands of years.  A treasure that could help answer the question: what was the history of the world prior to the mass destruction in Alexandria of recorded chronicles?”  Once again, Symon read the rendering of the second journal-manuscript.
“I, Assuri, a trusted slave of Babylon, journeyed by the great river to the northwest (Symon's note: Euphrates River), disembarking at a predetermined site before reaching the town of Carrhae.  Then west by land over the mountain range to the sea and Tarsus.  My beloved master had a relative who lived in Tarsus and who arranged passage by boat to Alexandria.  In all, I witnessed ten suns rise and set, and paid homage to the gods for my safety, which was in peril as I will relate.” (Symon's note: Estimating a distance of some 2,000 kilometers.)
“My thoughtful master, knowing all well that I have never ventured far from the city, dispatched two mercenaries to accompany, guide and protect this humble servant on the trek to Alexandria with our most cherished volumes in tow.  When the request from Hypatia (Symon's note:  A most highly respected female mathematician and astronomer.) of Alexandria arrived, my master immediately routed a message to inform his dear friend that he would certainly comply.  It was an honor to have the writings of our late high priest Berossus' three volumes of
the world dating from Creation to the Great Flood copied and preserved in the Great Library at Alexandria.”  (Symon's note: About all that is presently known about the volumes is that Berossus estimated the time between the two events to be 400,000 years—a hundred times longer than Old Testament chronology.)
I was excited beyond belief.  The journey would be tedious and dangerous, but my master's description of Alexandria and the library, and Hypatia's beauty filled my being with joy.  His entrusting the volumes greatly humbled this person.  My love for him grew like a raging river as he told me of rooms upon rooms filled with writings gathered for hundreds of years and valued more than gold.”  (Symon's note: There were an estimated 500,000 scroll-books
from Greece, Persia, Israel, India, Africa, and many other countries, all comprising the knowledge and history of the world to date.  Alexandria was a community of scholars studying and teaching: physics, literature, astronomy, philosophy, music, medicine, biology, mathematics and engineering.  The world's first research institute.  In the early 300's BC King Ptolemy I wrote:  ‘To all the sovereigns and governors on earth. I implore you to immediately send me works by authors of every kind: poets, rhetoricians and sophists, doctors and soothsayers, historians, and all others, too.’  Thus began the Library of Alexandria, and for hundreds of years the known writings, including history, were duplicated and stored.  The line of Ptolemys, ending with the death of Cleopatra, set out to not only collect every book in the world, but to translate them all into Greek.)
“With Berossus' works slung over my neck, close to my person in a large leather sheep-lined pouch, and my guides aboard, we set sail northwest.  The night's encampments were uncommonly dark.  On the fourth night, berthed on the bank where the great river sprang streams to both the north and south, I overheard the two men plotting to kill the servant and nip the valued prize. On the fifth night, playing the fool and obedient servant, and after grinding a powder from a known venomous plant, I sprinkled an amount sufficient enough into the
wine jug to render them in a death-like state for at least two days.  If they survived.  They fell for my offering, and drank with gluttonous passion.  At first light I left them in slumber, and pushed on, knowing full well they would not follow once they realized I was two days ahead of them.
Praise for The Franciscan:

New York Times bestselling author James Rollins commented on WR.PARK’s thirteenth novel: “I’ve been a fan of WR.PARK’s work for years.”

“The Franciscan featuring the first Pope Francis is about murder, suicide, extortion, assassins, devilish plots with a narrative with more twists and turns than a ride through purgatory.” – Publisher’s Auxiliary

“Unexpectedly thrust upon the throne of St. Peter by dark forces within the Vatican, this pope is trying to institute a radical agenda of change while contending with assassination attempts and political intrigue… and then things get really exciting.” – The Leaven Catholic Newspaper

“The Franciscan is a fascinating tale and has great general appeal. Readers who like intrigue and mystery in a colorful historical setting will enjoy [WR.PARK’s] effort and will certainly look forward to his subsequent offering.” – The Sun Newspaper

“Every now and then a book I’m asked to read and write about pleasantly surprises me. The Franciscan is a case point. It’s an intriguing read – weaving together two fascinating tales. It kept me interested up to and including the end.” – Northwest Florida Daily News

My Review:
This one was a hard on for me: on one hand it funs and the writting is not bad, but on the other it feels like this book has been done before and it feels like the literary references are seen so many times in this book its like "we get it, lets move on" but I felt like it didn't.

Overall the book is good but with character names like Shelley Merry and Victor Von Frankenstien it felt like the book for me was not creative. I was not loving it. Here are some more example of characters and names used in the book: Autumn's Hallow, Blaine Davis, Daschle Gaunt, Drake Harker, and the monster squad. Its like we get it, your book is all scary and "Halloweny" (yawn). I like books were the literary references are there, or the imagry is there but in more subtle or imagitive.

My final verdict:
I think this author has potential but I just which this book didn't feel like a literary reference on every page. I just thought the writing was ok as well. It could be improved, its a fun book though in the end and I would say readers can try it if they want to if they feel its their kind of thing. As for me I would say skip it, I dont recommend it.

Book Excerpt:

“Sometimes,” Chace started, and his tone was cautious, “girls like her, girls like she used to be who turn into girls like she is now, get a guy’s attention, a good-lookin’ guy like that, and they can go—”

Deck cut him off. “Chace, you know Emme. You know that’s bullshit. She’s always known her own mind. And she’s always been cool. Even when she wasn’t a knockout, she wasn’t that kind of person.”

“It’s been years, Deck,” Chace reminded him. “A lot of them. People change, and it isn’t lost on either of us she has in a big way.”

“Yeah, and I just met her on the street. I’m havin’ dinner with her tonight and she looks good, man, but she acts the same. And her man is a dick but he’s also a moron. So he’s no boss,” Deck declared and looked at Shaughnessy. “And you just got yourself a maverick.”

The mood in the room shifted. It had been alert. Now it was relieved.

Shaughnessy was the only one who didn’t want Deck stepping in.

The rest of them, after all they’d seen for the past few years, wanted this done, and they were willing to take risks to get that.

“Terrific,” Shaughnessy muttered, his eyes moving through the room.

“Decker, this needs to be discussed,” Douglas stated, and Deck looked to him.

“You want me on the team, we talk money. I’ll give a discount, see this shit sorted. I’ll want a full brief. I’ll want the entire file. I won’t take orders. I’ll keep you in the know of what I do and what I find. But, just sayin’, that woman means something to me.” He threw out a hand toward the whiteboard. “So even if you don’t put me on the team and pay me, I’ll still be seein’ her clear of this shit.”

“You can’t let her know we’re investigating her boyfriend,” Carole said swiftly.

“This isn’t my first rodeo,” Deck returned. “What’s goin’ down, I wouldn’t fuck your investigation. But she’s still clear and she’s clear in no more than a week. Not months. Not as long as it’ll take you to track this crew, the way you’re goin’, and stop their shit.”

“As contract to this task force, you cannot engage in illegal activities. We can’t prosecute with fruit from the poisonous tree,” Douglas told him.

“Again, not my first rodeo,” Deck replied.

“You have a crew or do you work alone?” Henry asked.

“This, I’ll be bringin’ in my crew,” Deck answered.

“They’ll all need to see me,” Douglas stated. “Contract is signed, you all work for my department until the case is done.”

Deck nodded and his eyes went to Chace. “Want a picture of that board, want the file.”

“Deck, not sure this is a good idea. You got a conflict of interest with this—”

Deck again cut Chace off. “This is Emme.”

“I know it’s Emme,” Chace shot back, concerned for Deck and losing patience because of it. “Until just now, I had no idea you’d react the way you have when you saw it was Emme. So Emme’s the goddamned conflict of interest.”

“You know her,” Deck whispered, also losing patience, and he watched his friend’s face. Definite concern but also indecision.

He knew Emme.

Chace went from the academy into Carnal’s Police Department and stayed there but that didn’t mean Deck didn’t spend time with Chace throughout all Deck’s travels. Chace had met Elsbeth. Chace had spent time with her. And with Elsbeth came Emme. So Chace had spent time with Emme too.

“Her change is remarkable, Deck,” Chace noted again. “That’s something to take into account.”

At his words, Deck felt the ghost of her fingers digging into his shoulder through his coat. Saw the dimple. Heard her call him honey.

And he knew her history. Elsbeth told him. He knew what she’d survived. He knew what made her what she was.

He didn’t know what made her what she was now, but he was going to find out at dinner.

Last, he knew Emme would not be a part of a crew who burgled homes across an entire county and recruited high school students to do it. Not for the attention of the likes Dane McFarland. Not for money. Not for power. Not for anything.

“She’s up first. I investigate her. Clear her. Then clear her of this shit,” Deck stated.

“You work that with me,” Chace returned.

“Suit yourself. But dinner with Emme tonight is just her and me.”

Chace studied him.

Deck took it then looked to Douglas. “You got a file for me?”

“It’ll be delivered to your house by three thirty,” Douglas replied.

“Contracts will be emailed to you by then. My crew will be in tomorrow at eight to be deputized,” Deck replied.

“You gonna be with them?” Douglas asked.

“Wouldn’t miss that shit for the world,” Deck answered, cut his eyes through the people in the room, noting Henry Gibbons looked amused, Mick Shaughnessy looked annoyed, Carole Weatherspoon looked reflective and Chace still looked worried.

Then he walked out of office, out of the station and to his truck.

Book Excerpt:
I take a few steps into the cabin, staring in awe. While the exterior of the plane may have been simple, the interior is the complete opposite. The leather seats and carpeting are in a soothing shade of cream, while the fixtures like the light switches and door handles are covered in gold. Couch pillows and a cashmere blanket in taupe cover a long sofa on one side of the cabin. Yet I don’t feel intimidated by the opulence of the space. It’s elegant yet comfortable. The entire plane signifies that someone of means and power owns it, but when you look inside, it’s calming and reassuring, just like Davison.
I sit in one of the single chairs by the window when I hear my phone ring. I almost forgot to turn it off.
When I check the caller ID, I smile.
“Hi, Harvard.”
“Hey, baby,” his deep voice greets me with that rumble I love. “You on the plane?”
“Yes, and it’s gorgeous. Thank you for doing this for me.”
“Always, Venus. Did Gerard give you the tour?”
“Um, no. I think he’s busy at the moment.”
“That’s all right. Even though I’m not there, I can do this for you over the phone. Did you know there’s a bedroom in the back?”
I never sleep well on planes, so the thought of having a decent rest before I get to Milan excites me to no end. “Really?”
“Of course. Why don’t you go check it out? It’s the door on the right.”
“Umm, okay. I guess I have time.”
I look up to the front of the plane to scan for Gerard, but he’s probably disappeared into the galley. I unbuckle my seat belt, walking slowly to the back. I turn the handle on the door to the right just like Davison instructed.
The door swings open, and I scream at the sight in front of me.
“Ready to fly my friendly skies, baby?” Davison asks me, a wicked smirk on his face, his eyes alive and shining and locked on mine.
I fly into his arms, coiling my legs around his waist. Grabbing his hair in my hands, I lock my mouth over his, kissing him furiously even though it’s been less than twelve hours since I last saw him.
When I can’t breathe anymore, I pull back to look at his beautiful face. “What are you doing here?”
He can’t stop smiling. “I thought I’d go with you as far as the airport in Milan, then fly up to London for some client meetings before going back to New York.”
I stroke his face with my right hand. “What a clever man you are, Davison Berkeley.”
“What can I say? I’m the king of multitasking.”
“That’s not the only thing you’re the king of.” I grin back at him.
“Damn right, Miss Orsini.”
I unwrap my legs as he puts me back down on the floor, where I can finally take a look at him and my surroundings. He looks so hot, his dark hair all rumpled thanks to my eager hands, dressed in a white button-down shirt, the pushed-up sleeves revealing his corded forearms, worn blue jeans, and the brown driving shoes I love on him. In the bedroom, the same color palette of cream and gold decorates the walls and fixtures, save for one thing—the double bed in the middle of the room that’s covered in a black cashmere duvet.
“Wow. That looks…comfortable,” I comment, envisioning the events to come later in the flight with great anticipation.
“Oh, it is, my love. Very comfortable,” he assures me slyly, planting a kiss on my hand before taking it in his, leading me out the door. “Come on. It’s almost time to take off.”
“So, wait. I’m guessing that I was the last to know that you were planning this, judging by the mischievous looks that Charles and Gerard were giving me.”
Davison sits me down in the seat next to his. “Pretty much,” he confirms as he’s locking his seat belt.
I give him a long stare. “Evil. Pure evil.”
He takes my hand again, stroking it with his thumb in that way of his that always arouses me. “But you love it, baby.”

The Ever After of Ella & Micha Launch Day Blitz

THE EVER AFTER OF ELLA AND MICHA by Jessica Sorensen
The day Ella has waited for is just around the corner. It's the day she'll marry Micha, the love of her life, the light that guided her out of the darkness. It looks like it will be the perfect Christmas-until an unexpected package arrives with a harsh reminder of Ella's past. Suddenly Ella doesn't feel as confident about her future. Can she really have a "happily-ever-after" if she's never even seen one?

Micha will stand by Ella no matter what she's going through-though he worries that she might leave him standing at the altar again. When he's offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance to tour with his favorite bands for three months, Micha knows he can't leave Ella behind. But can he ask her to uproot her life to join him on the road?

Now Ella and Micha must find a way to balance their fears, their dreams, and their love . . . if they ever want to hear wedding bells.

Book Excerpt:
“Baby, come on. Let them be. They deserve a beautiful wedding not an elopement in a tacky fake church.” Lila glides her hand up the front of his chest, stands on her tiptoes, and kisses his neck. Then she whispers something in his ear as she plays with his hair.
I’ll admit they make a cute couple, especially now that Lila has this whole grunge thing going. Her blond hair is chin length and streaked with black that matches Ethan’s hair. She’s wearing jeans and a tank top that aren’t name brand like everything she used to wear when we were living together. Her style goes well with Ethan’s laidback look: his plaid shirt and faded jeans and a pair of sneakers that he’s probably owned since he was sixteen. And Lila’s average height allows her to nestle her head against Ethan’s chest comfortably. Looking at them with the sunlight and my house in the backdrop, I find myself wishing I had time to draw them.
After a lot of kissing and whispering in Ethan’s ear, Lila convinces him to stop complaining and he begrudgingly agrees that Vegas is a ridiculous idea and that Micha and I should get married in Star Grove.
“A week is not a lot of time to prepare a wedding,” Lila declares, pulling her sunglasses over her eyes. “Not a real one with decorations, flowers, dresses, tuxes, and guests. God, I wish we had more time to plan this.”
“And I wish you wouldn’t take any time to plan it,” I say, and when she frowns I sigh. “Sorry, I’m just not into wedding stuff.” I round the car to the passenger side of the Chevelle, trailing my finger across a few dings and chips in the black paint that were put there when Micha intentionally crashed it into the snow bank.
Micha opens the driver door and steps back so Ethan can climb into the backseat. “It doesn’t matter what kind of wedding we have,” he says, “just as long as Ella’s there with me. In fact, we don’t even need dresses and tuxes. We could even be naked and standing in my backyard and I’d be okay.” He winks at me over the roof of the car. “As long as we’re together, I’ll be happy and being naked would just be an added bonus.”
This makes Lila giggle as she ducks her head and hops into the backseat with Ethan. I push the seat back, get in the car, and shut the door, then pull the visor down to block the sunlight.
Micha adjusts the driver’s seat before he closes the door and starts the engine. “So is everyone ready for this?” He looks around at the three of us, but when his eyes finally land on me I know he only really cares about my answer.
It takes me a second to answer and he notices my hesitation and his expression starts to fall. But even though my throat feels dry I manage to say, “Of course.” My voice trembles a little.
“Okay then.” Giving me a small but slightly forced smile, he backs down the driveway and drives toward the highway, toward home where all of this started. Where Micha and I first met, first talked, first played, kissed, fooled around, danced, said I love you.
Where Micha and I began.

Delightful Launch Day Blitz

About DELIGHTFUL
Ice Erickksen has "one-night stand" written all over him. Once he's finished shooting the Big Sky Pie reality show, this hot-as-hell TV producer is going to hightail it out of Montana and return to his glamorous life in L.A. But Ice gets into hot water when one of the goodies in the pie shop-a delightful blonde with marriage on her mind-burns up the camera lens. Andrea Lovette, the manager of the shop, always picks the bad boys. But after her divorce, she's determined to find the good family man that her two young sons deserve. Although Andrea's body sizzles whenever Ice is near, she knows in her heart that he's not marriage material. Then why does the bad boy still seem like such a good idea?

Book excerpt:
She spun on her heel with every intention of chewing him out, but froze under the gaze of those mesmerizing eyes that haunted her dreams.  His grin said he had her where he wanted her—all to himself.
He needed to be set straight on a few points, first that she wouldn’t be manipulated.  Maybe he couldn’t help himself, being a director, but she didn’t like it.  She closed the gap between them as though she were glad to be alone with him.  She got up close and personal, in full-on flirt mode, fingering his collar, feeling the pulse at his neck quicken, hearing his intake of breath.  She leaned into him as if she meant to kiss him and whispered, “If you’d wanted to get me alone, sweetheart, all you had to do was ask.”
He started to reach for her, but she pulled back.  He cocked his head, studied her, something bothering him, but not what she expected.  “How’s Lucas?”
The question seemed to come out of the blue, like an angry hornet biting into her exposed flesh.  Why had he asked about her son?  What did Lucas have to do with him?  Nothing, that’s what.  “He’s none of your concern.”
Ice pressed his lips together, nodding.  “You’re right.  He’s not.  I was just. . .being polite.”
She nodded, knowing she needed to draw a line with him.  “The other day with you was an awful mistake.  It can’t happen again.  Ever.”
“Awful?”  A soft laugh vibrated in his throat.  “I don’t believe you. . .and you know as well as I do that it will happen again. . .”  He was staring at her mouth, and then her breasts—which were standing at attention, either from the cold of the room or the heat of his gaze.  She should leave now, but her brain wasn’t paying attention.  It was listening to the baser requests being made by the glances of this so-wrong-for-her man.
“I don’t have any expectations,” she said.  “I don’t want anything more.  No strings.”
            “What if I want strings?”
“You don’t want strings.”  She couldn’t help but chuckle at the absurdity of that.  “Any woman harboring that fantasy only has to sleep with you to realize it’s a foolhardy notion.”
His eyes clouded, a sure sign that she’d dented his ego.  “What does that mean?”
Oh, God, why had she opened this can of worms?  How did she explain that she’d had a man exactly like him?  That she knew from experience he was only in it for himself.  He didn’t want her for her.  He was only turned on by her loving wild sex as much as he did.  What could she say that would make him stop coming after her for more?  “Don’t get me wrong.  I enjoy hot, dirty sex as much as anyone, especially with a lover who knows his way around the female body.  But like most women, I want something more.”
“Such as?”  The glint in his eye said “bring it on.”  He was up for any challenge she wanted to throw at him.  Literally up for it, she realized, judging by the bulge in his chinos.
Her resolve wobbled, her grasp on the situation slipping through her fingers.  But she couldn’t think when he looked at her like this, when she wanted to feel his mouth on hers, his arms around her, his body pressed close.
He came toward her.  “Can’t think of anything?”
“Yes.  I can.”  But nothing was coming to her.  Nothing she’d say to him.
He’d backed her into a corner, the heat issuing off him making her panties wet and her heart thunder.  She felt like a moth fluttering toward a killing light.  If she wasn’t careful, she might let him strip her naked right here, just to extinguish the flame that burned for him.   So much for being in control of any area of her life.  She was a screwed-up mess.
He groaned her name, shoved his hands into her hair, and captured her mouth in a brain-tingling explosion of lust.  She wanted to claw his clothes off and climb on top of him, right here, right now in the pie shop.  He broke off the kiss, panting, his forehead to hers.  “What is it about you. . .?”
