Excerpt:
“Good evening, Rosalie.” I hear the silky smooth voice before I see him, and I can already feel the butterflies in my stomach—Finn.
“Hey, Finn. How are you?” I reply in what I hope is a sultry voice. I normally just end up sounding nasally, and I know my cheeks are probably reddening. Just being around him and his brothers makes me lose any confidence I have.
“Living the life,” Finn answers with a chuckle, as he leans across the bar toward me, his hand inches from mine. “You look beautiful tonight. Anyone special coming in?” I hear a note of jealousy in his tone, but shrug it off as my imagination. I’ve made it clear that I think he’s hot, so if he’s interested he would have made his move by now.
“Everyone that comes in is special, silly,” I respond with a laugh. “I just wanted to dress up tonight. Sometimes it’s fun to get all cute, even if you’re just going to work.”
“I don’t think you need to get so dressed up to tempt the men here.” His words and the smile that graces his face make my cheeks burn, and I tilt my head forward to cover my embarrassment with my hair, using the opportunity to clean the bar top with a rag.
“Are you swooning over our beautiful bartender, Finn?”
I bite my lip as I take in Dean, who’s approaching from the back. I scan his body, barely suppressing the moan it evokes from me. He’s wearing dark jeans that are tight in all the right places, paired with a slightly tight black band t-shirt, making him completely droolworthy. He catches me staring and clears his throat with a chuckle. “You look gorgeous, Rose. Why are you wasting your time with my pitiful brother?”
“Uh, hi, D-Dean,” I stammer, dropping the rag to the floor. I take a step back, planning to pick it up, causing my heel to catch on the stone tile floor and snap. I squeak loudly as I fall backward, straight onto my bottom, sending shooting pains up my back. “Son of a bitch!” I groan, looking up to see Dean staring at me in surprise.
“Rose! Are you okay?” Dean crouches down and puts his hand on my shoulder.
Tears burn my eyes as I use all my willpower to suck them back into my skull. I can already feel that my ass is going to be bruised, as well as my ego. “Yes, I’m fine. Just bruised and embarrassed,” I say as I stand up. I’m immediately lopsided due to my broken heel, and groan at the thought of working barefoot all night.
“Well, that’s broken,” Finn notes, as he bends over to pick up the heel of my shoe.
“I know. Fuck, these are new,” I mutter under my breath.
Dean sets me on a barstool and begins taking off my shoes. I immediately feel goosebumps erupt on my skin as I look down at the way too sexy man. “Uh, thanks,” I murmur, summoning a smile to his face. I feel my cheeks heat with a blush at my reaction to him and the knowledge that I’m not hiding it very well.
Dean looks back at his brother as he sets the broken shoe on the floor.
“Finn, can you get those black flip-flops upstairs?” he asks his brother, then turns back to face me. “You’re a what? Eight? Eight and a half?”
I squint my eyes at him and slowly reply, “Yes, I’m an eight. How would you know that?”
“Lucky guess,” he answers, just as Finn reappears at the door. He tosses the flip-flops to Dean who slips them onto my feet before helping me back onto the ground. “There you go. Perfect, although it was nicer when we were closer in height.” His laughter causes butterflies to fly in my stomach again and it feels as if they are permanently there. I try to push why he would just happen to have women’s flip-flops in their apartment out of my mind, concentrating on what his proximity is doing to my body.
I open my lips, ready to say something, something cute or sexy I hope, but I’m cut off when he places a finger on my chin and smiles just before he steps away. It feels as if the breath rushes from my body in a whoosh when he’s no longer so close to me. Relief and sadness overwhelm me. They are so fucking hot. Like, unfairly hot.

Title: Know Your Level of Scare Tolerance for Dark Fiction This Halloween

Autumn is upon us. Life slowly fades from the leaves. They release their grip on the branches to drift gently to the ground. The sun’s warmth withdraws as Winter’s chilly fingers reach through the air to stroke our skin and hair. Promises of snow are in the wind.

We grab our fuzzy slippers and a hot cup of tea. Then we head to the fireplace with a good book. Our tastes turn dark. We want to read about grisly murders or paranormal haunts. Some may turn to horror or dark fantasy. No matter what genre we select, October is the time for Halloween scares.

What Makes Good Dark Fiction

So, what is “dark fiction?” I classify the genre as any story which explores the darker or evil side of human nature. Authors also explore the themes of death. Frequently categorized as a sub-genre of horror, dark fiction makes us feel fear, anger, and sorrow. The category includes horror, dark fantasy, paranormal, and even samples of YA fantasy. Some may disagree with my classification, but that’s okay. Sub-genres are hard to pinpoint and are often open to interpretation.

Good dark fiction feeds our need to be scared, especially during the Halloween season. It presents the Reader with plausible plots and likable characters. We care about their well-being. Dark fiction takes it up a notch with a masterful twist few genres can match. Fear. Authors of dark fiction use this emotion as a tool to build our sense of conflict and tension.

Our level of angst builds and builds until, ultimately, we find ourselves screaming, “DON’T GO INTO THE BASEMENT, BECKY!”

Knowing Your Level of Scare Tolerance

I have a dear friend who purchases my books and comes to all my signings. She’s super supportive. I appreciate her friendship. Only a true friend would buy my books even though she has no intention of reading them. And I completely understand her reasons. My books are way too scary and gruesome for her.

Horror and dark fantasy are not for everyone. These stories can cause bouts of queasiness and insomnia. It’s essential to know your level of scare tolerance, before grabbing a dark fiction book from the shelf.

Here is my breakdown:

·         Horror Light – These stories contain mildly aggressive phantasms, hauntings by help-seeking ghosts, folk creatures and scary supernatural characters

·         Horror Mid-Range – Contains gruesome details, but most are alluded to rather than spelled out in bright bloody letters. Flesh-eating zombie chases. Poltergeists. Malicious hauntings, etc.

·         Horror Hardcore – Think slasher movies. Blood and guts. Demonic possessions. Things that will keep you up at night

My work falls into the “Horror Mid-Range” area. In the Heart of the Warrior series, flesh-eaters called, The Dirge, chase my main characters. They crave human meat. I allude to these creatures gnawing at living flesh and bone but don’t go into a great deal of detail.

I’m not a fan of slasher movies or “Horror Hardcore.” Why? I have a low tolerance for gross-out scenes. The Horror Community gets together each year at Killercon. This outstanding convention celebrates writers and artists of the genre. They used to have a “Gross-Out” contest. I attended one year and thought I’d lose every meal I’d eaten since 1990!  We have some very talented horror writers who use gore like paint. And their fans love it!

Dark fiction has something for everyone from mild shivers to the genuinely gruesome. Understand your scare tolerance, turn on some bright lights, and enjoy the story!

Everyday Enchantments: Musings on Ordinary Magic & Daily Conjurings Guest Post and Giveaway

Guest Post & Giveaway - Everyday Enchantments: Musings on Ordinary Magic & Daily Conjurings by Maria DeBlassie
Cultivating the Joy of Sacred Simple Pleasures – Maria DeBlassie
This year’s resolution was to indulge in more sacred simple pleasures, those things that make every day magical and remind us that pleasure is an integral part of life, love, and happiness. Why? Because pleasure is significantly undervalued in our society. Because pleasure tells us a lot about ourselves–our values and priorities. Because it is okay to let go of toxic things in favor of radical joy.
Sounds delicious, right? And it is…when I have been able to celebrate this hedonism without censure or guilt. Or better still, when I can know what actually is pleasurable versus what I think should be pleasurable. Let’s just say I’ve learned a thing or two about my relationship to pleasure now that I’m roughly halfway through my year of focusing on it. You might think that because I write about everyday magic that I’ve got things all figured out. Well, I don’t! In fact never have I realized this more than in my efforts to cultivate sacred simple pleasures.
When I first started this exploration of sacred simple pleasure in January, I was coming off of a big year for me: my first book was published and had won the first of what would become many awards. I had won a major teaching award, too, and accomplished many other wonderful things in my career. All good things, but I found myself looking for balanced come the new year. All those accomplishments took serious fire energy, years of conjuring and concentration, before they came to fruition. I now needed to turn my time and attention to the gentler things in life: unstructured time, everyday joys, more passive experiences. In short, I needed to create space for possibility in my life.
It was hard at first. For as much as I write about the divine feminine and the softer energies in our lives, I realized just how much masculine energy I had. I was used to being assertive, aggressive in my pursuit of what I wanted. But the cultivation of sacred simple pleasures was entirely different. For one thing, the energy was much more passive than I was used too. I had to cultivate openness, receptivity which in itself felt intensely vulnerable. I was a novice in many respects here when I was used to being an expert. For another, I learned quickly that more people, more activities, more out-there energy didn’t necessarily invoke the sacredness of simple pleasures. In fact, it was the opposite: I was tired, anxious, and in need of some serious quiet time.
Through these two misconceptions about simple pleasures—that they are loud, performative things and that I can access with the same masculine energy I applied to my professional life—I quickly learned that I had to change my relationship to pleasure. Simple pleasures, for me, were found in quiet innocuous things: morning walks, sipping iced tea on my patio, a schedule-free Sunday, the magic of a good book.
They didn’t cost money or company to bring me pleasure.
A lot of different emotions have come up in the process—not all of them pleasant—as I come to terms with the fact that I have denied myself certain pleasures or suppressed parts of myself in order to fit into mainstream extroverted culture. There is joy in these epiphanies too, however bittersweet. They allow me to acknowledge past limitations so I can move forward unshackled.
I’ve been thinking a lot about that phrase too: to allow. It’s been popping up all over the place. What am I allowed energetically, emotionally, physically? Or put more accurately, what have I allowed myself to enjoy? The painful epiphany that emerged from these questions was that I haven’t allowed myself to enjoy certain things without even realizing that I’ve drawn a line in the sand. It’s a subtle thing—telling yourself you have to work instead of watching the sunset, letting stress taint your thoughts because you can’t possibly be this happy, being stingy with your fun because there’s so many other things you should be doing. Hell, I didn’t even know I was doing it half the time until I started making a conscious effort to create space for non-goal oriented pleasure this year.
Much of this comes from the cultural shame surrounding pleasure. If it feels good, mainstream religion tells us, it must be bad. Or think of the Puritanical roots of white American. If it’s enjoyable, it’s certainly the sowing seeds of sin. Worst of all, I’ve realized that the fear of pleasure is a fear of happiness. We spend so much time worrying about wether or not we will get our HEA (Happily Ever After) or finally Arrive that we never stop to think about how much those things terrify us. We wonder, secretly, if we are capable of holding so much joy.
So how do we tap into sacred simple pleasures with the myriad of feelings they unleash? Simple. Dive in. Without thought or questions. Unfettered by the fear of our own infinite potential for happiness. Be sinful. Shamelessly enjoy the small pleasures you have denied yourself in your own unconscious attempt to put a limit on happiness. Welcome in bigger pleasures too.
We’re allowed infinite pleasures, infinite happiness.
Find just one little thing you enjoy and revel in it. The magic will follow.

Spellbinding meditations on conjuring your own bliss.
Everyday Enchantments is a love letter to the magic of everyday life, the sweet moments and the profound that we often overlook in our hurry to get from one place to the next. What if we had the power to unplug from our daily hustle and bustle and conjure a more profound way of living rooted in natural mysticism?
We do. All it takes is the whispered wish for more everyday enchantment breathed onto a dandelion head. This collection of essays reminds us to escape into the ordinary, find beauty in a simple cup of tea or rereading a beloved novel—and joyfully let our world turn upside down when synchronicity strikes in the form of wrong turns down forgotten lanes and unexpected midnight conversations with the moon.
This book is a study in what it means to live deliciously, joyfully, and magically. And it’s an invitation to conjure your own bliss—-because let’s face it: we could all use a little more magic in our lives.
Excerpt from Everyday Enchantments
ENCHANTMENT: A spell wrapped in a noun. Three syllables. One state of being.
To live with Enchantment is to see beyond the brick and mortar that make up your home and into the magic infused within its frame. It is made up of stories and dried bay leaves and dreams whispered into the heads of dandelions. Of bare feet on carpeted floors and the smell of burning sage. Crystals—amethyst, citrine, amazonite, smoky quartz—winding in and around your books; all the better to magnify their magic. It is to peel back the layers of your day-to-day and search for that elusive energy that winds its way up your spine and outward into your life. Let the snake at your base wriggle free of its coil to climb up to your shoulder blades and across your open back. There is no room for tightly stacked discs here, just the taste of joy when the sun licks your skin.
You might find it at the bottom of an empty teacup. Your future written in soggy leaves, or in the whisper of trees, their leaves rustling and murmuring secrets only they can understand. Sometimes they are kind enough to translate for you—if you listen long enough. If you shower their roots with distilled love songs and feed them the black earth from your compost. It’s there, too, when you run your tongue along the grooves and ridges of a well-loved sentence. It’s everywhere. Even in the spaces you think have lost hope, like the junk drawer where you keep
your faded dreams, stray screws, and half-forgotten heartbreaks along with wine corks and a few rubber bands. They’re not lost, just resting like seeds in the earth before they are ready to break open.
That is the first syllable.
The second is to learn from Enchantment, to listen to Coyote’s call when he plays his tricks. Coyote loves his tricks. And you should too. What delicious messages wrapped in matted fur and a lolling tongue! All he wants is for you to take that leap of faith when only you can see the soft earth on the other side of the cliff. Don’t you know that you have wings? They are just rusty from disuse. Just listen to Coyote’s long-winded stories (he does so admire himself) and watch the flick of his tail. All he asks is for you to trust him, even if he can’t be trusted; his les- son is real, hard as onyx in your palm, ephemeral as the desert rain that you feel in your bones when all you see is a cloudless sky. No weatherman can ever map the storms and sunshine work- ing their way across your body.
Coyote has no room for logic, just the reason in his unreason.
Just those perfect coincidences set in motion by the padding of his paws. You are raw power, he says, a spark of the universe set in motion. And you must trust this power that is you, that is the earth, that is the beating of your heart. A rhythmic tattoo forever pounding out your path, however many times you try to stray from it. All Enchantment asks is that you absorb the wisdom of the moon and the stars, and the prophesying of the seeds burrowed deep in the dirt. Coyote is there to make sure you listen, even when the rest of the world prefers your ears stopped with cotton and your heart beating as slow as melting snow in winter.
And the third syllable? To conjure. Here you weave your spell with vowels and conso- nants and beeswax candles. You seal them with pure starlight and a handful of chamomile. Then you burn away the dry brush and the brittle ideas that don’t hold up against the moonlight. There is no room here for literal…things or the people who think them. Not if you want to create. Not if you want to believe that the most important part of your everyday occurs in the moments oth- ers can too easily overlook. (Seldom can you find a person strong enough to brave the stillness or wade into the bottomless waters of imagination.) You make your life here, in the infinite poten- tial of seconds and minutes and hours unfurling into vines and roots. Because when you are look- ing for everyday enchantment, it finds you. Always. And if you let it, it will settle inside your skin and feed your soul with dreams grown ripe under the sun’s caress. It drops you deep down into the rich earth and forgotten caves buried between heartbeats—places that many are too afraid to venture inside. For how can you absorb the marvelous, if you do not recognize it re- flected in yourself, feel it settle in your bones like so much calcium?
That’s Enchantment.
A three-syllable spell wrapped in a noun, planted in the earth and nourished with moon- light. Let the roots stretch to the underworld and the leaves unfurl toward the heavens. Walk across the star-kissed bridge made of hollyhock seeds and strong will. There is your passage into the unseen universe.

J.K. Rowlings Wizarding World The Beast within box

Another Book Related box im reviewing/unboxing:

I am a huge Harry Potter Fan. When Fantastic Beast came out I was not sure about it but I of course bought the book when it came out and loved it! Why wouldn't I? Anyway, when I saw this box I knew I needed to try it. Was disappointed in this box.

You can view my unboxing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZezAP8fGGwk

Thoughts on the box: (In bullet points, for a change)

  • Outside of box was dented but that can happen in shipping.
  • Inside of box was beautiful.
  • Wizarding World foldout explaining products was very helpful (nice feature).
  • Liked the theme of the box overall
  • Box seemed overall geared for males. All genders like Fantastic Beast please keep that in mind in the future.
Items in the box:
  • Maledictus shirt: Got the size right but I thought the shirt was very ugly overall.
  • Kelpie Mug: This item was damaged when I opened it the 1st day. They was a scratch in it or something. Loot Crate was very awesome about it and sent me a replacement right away! Sadly, not a fan of the mug.
  • Insert ad about buying Fantastic Beast movie. No coupon or anything, just an add very annoying in my view.
  • Baby Niffler squishies: Very cute, favorite thing in the box but don't know what I would use them for...
  • Matagot Pin: Don't like it. I think its very ugly.
  • French Ministry Tin Sign: Second favorite thing in the box. I studied French for years so I love all things French related. Sadly, this is another item I do not know what I would do with.
Final verdict:
  • Would not recommend this box.
  • Did not like any of the items.
  • It took two months to send me this box I think that is way too long.

She now spends her spare time poking through the corners, nooks, and crannies of history, searching for the odd mysterious bits and transforming them into novels of her own. The Right Sort of Man is her debut novel.

Today I am spotlighting this awesome book on my blog!

Check out the cover reveal video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRTwlc3VCHY

Journey Overview:
Empyrea, an island in the Andromeda galaxy belonging to planet Vathura is serene. Everywhere your eyes turn, you will feast on the lovely birds singing their heart out in the lush green vegetation. Osiris Mysterio ruled the regions of Empyrea with his brother Tyrant Seth and with their children Pitheceus Babi, Kraity Wadjet, and Horus Mysterio.
5000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians were the only humans to receive the invitation to enter Empyrea. They gladly on-boarded into a Pegasus chariot and took their journey to Empyrea. Their journey is indescribable. Empyrea by itself was like a fairy-tale garden, an ocean of flowers and exotic trees.
front New.jpg As the Egyptians went further inside Empyrea, they saw its netherworld. They had mixed feelings when they saw the triangle shaped tombs and the bizarre headhunting people along with the blood-curdling creatures like the deadly dinosaurs, gigantic snakes, furious apes, ruthless rhino’s, massive mastodons and many other creepy creatures. This showed the power of the Empyrean Army and that no other army could survive their wrath.
Emperor Osiris and the kings ruled Empyrea with powerful Scepters. With those powers, they were not only considered as kings but also worshipped as Lords. The Lords with the help of their scepter had the crucial power to transform themselves into giant creatures.
Egyptians while departing from Empyrea was gifted with a shortcut portal to earth and also with some people and creatures of Empyrea to build the Empramids in Egypt. Overwhelmed with happiness they took the shortcut door and returned to Egypt.
However, their happiness was short-lived in Empyrea. The Empire of Empyrea was betrayed for ruling earth avariciously. Somehow the Emperor of Empyrea locked the shortcut portal and asked the Egyptians to safeguard it. The Egyptians, on the other hand, failed to safeguard the portal. And some gangsters accidentally opened the shortcut door in 2017 A.D, entered Empyrea, and inadvertently got access to the Lord scepters.
Now the Earthians were left with no choice but to battle against the merciless predators and headhunting people in their heroic journey. Their ultimate fate lied in an empire beyond imagination. They would take their stand against the powerful lords, who brutally led their people to war against planet Earth.
Did the gangsters protect the earth from danger, or left the other world to accomplish their tyrant rule on Earth? Explore the world of Empyrea to unravel the truth behind this mystery
