Today I am promoting another great book here on my blog: ANGELS AT THE GATE By T. K. Thorne
“A masterpiece of historical research, interweaving history and theology in a re-visioning of an ancient story from a woman’s perspective. Thorne is a dazzlingly gifted writer.”
–Sue Walker, Poet Laureate of Alabama, 2003-2012
“Thorne unspools an ancient adventure with crackling undertones of our contemporary lives. Lean, polished action sequences render a young woman’s life with both intensity and nuanced truth.”
–Dale Short, public radio commentator and author of A Shinning, Shinning Path
MASTER STORYTELLER T.K. THORNE DELIVERS AN INSPIRING AND PROVOCATIVE NOVEL BASED ON THE BIBLICAL FIGURE, LOT’S WIFE ANGELS AT THE GATE Brings The Ancient World To Life Through The Eyes of An Extraordinary Woman
Little is known about Lot’s wife, the unnamed biblical figure who was turned into a pillar of salt as she fled the destruction of Sodom. But for writer T.K. Thorne, just one reference was enough to ignite her imagination and form the basis for her dazzling new novel, ANGELS AT THE GATE (Cappuccino Books, March 2015). Like Noah’s Wife, Thorne’s highly praised debut, this book brings the ancient world to life through the eyes of an extraordinary woman.
Based on historical, biblical, and archaeological research, visits to the Middle East, and a large measure of creativity, ANGELS AT THE GATE is the story of Adira, destined to become Lot’s wife. A daughter of Abram's tribe, Adira is an impetuous young girl whose mother died in childbirth. Secretly raised as a boy in her father’s caravan and schooled in languages and the art of negotiation, Adira rejects the looming changes of womanhood that threaten her nomadic life and independence.
But with the arrival of two mysterious strangers – Northmen rumored to be holy or possibly even “Angels” – Adira’s world unravels. Raiders invade the caravan, and she loses everything she values most – her father, her freedom, and even the “Angels.”
Caught between her oath to her father to return to her tribe and the “proper life for a woman” and tormented by an impossible love, she abandons all she has known in a dangerous quest to seek revenge and find her kidnapped “Angel.” Now, Adira must use the skills she learned in the caravan to survive the perils of the desert, Sodom, and her own heart.
ANGELS AT THE GATE is a story of adventure and the power of love, exploring themes about choice – the importance of asking the right questions and walking the fine edge between duty and personal freedom.
Based on a simple mention in the Bible, T.K. Thorne has developed a complex and full-bodied character in the wife of Lot, a woman both ancient and modern, who will touch readers’ hearts, and live in their memories for years to come. As Dianne Mooney, founder of Southern Living At Home says, “For all those whose curiosity is piqued by how it might have been in the time of Sodom and Gomorrah, this is a must read!”

ABOUT THE AUTHORT.K. Thorne’s childhood passion for storytelling deepened when she became a police officer in Birmingham, Alabama. “It was a crash course in life and what motivated and mattered to people.” When she retired as a captain, she took on Birmingham’s business improvement district as the executive director. Both careers provide fodder for her writing, which has garnered several awards, including “Book of the Year for Historical Fiction” (ForeWord Reviews) for her debut novel Noah’s Wife. Her first non-fiction book, Last Chance for Justice, was featured on the New York Post’s “Books You Should Be Reading” list. She loves traveling, especially to research her novels, and speaking about her books and life lessons. She writes at her mountaintop home, often with two dogs by her side and a cat on her lap.

For Keeps Blog Tour and Giveaway
A SUMMER FLING . . . OR SOMETHING MORE?
Merry Atwater would do just about anything to save her dog rescue - even if it means working with the most stubborn man on the planet. It's hard to avoid the sparks that fly with TJ Jameson, the ruggedly sexy cowboy in charge of the children's camp where she's just taken an animal therapy job. But commitment is not Merry's style, and TJ clearly wants more than just a roll in the hay. TJ Jameson isn't looking for anything complicated-just a peaceful life on his family's ranch with a wife and kids. "No-strings" Merry Atwater doesn't fit that bill, no matter how irresistible she is. But when he sees how Merry gets through to his autistic nephew and the other kids at Camp Blue Sky, TJ's a goner. If he doesn't give in to the now, he might just lose his shot at forever . . .
Book Excerpt:
His expression heated until his eyes
practically burned her.
She nibbled her bottom lip. "I
should, uh, I should go."
"It's late," he said, his
voice like gravel. It tickled all her sweet spots.
She stared at his hands, those big
calloused fingers. Damn, but she wanted to feel them on her skin. Like, now.
"Really late." She took a
step, but her feet accidentally carried her toward T.J., not the door.
He sucked in an audible breath, his eyes
scorching hers. "I thought you were going."
"So did I." But fuck it. If
she was going to be in his house in the middle of the night in her underwear,
she might as well give him a kiss goodnight.
She'd never been known for her
self-control, after all.
He watched her, not moving a muscle, as
if he'd become rooted to the floor.
She put her palms on his biceps and
pressed her lips to his. Just a quick kiss to test the waters, because they did
have to work together for the next month.
His scent wrapped around her, filled her
lungs, and stole her sanity. She lingered for a moment, her lips on his, so
soft, so warm. Just enough to make her want more. So much more.
Her body pulsed with it.
She was about to pull back and tell him
goodnight when his arms slid around her waist, securing her against the firm
column of his body, and oh God, she
was a goner.
"What was that?" he whispered
against her lips.
She slid her hands up to encircle his
neck. "A goodnight kiss."
"And why would you do something
like that?" His voice vibrated through her.
"Because I wanted to." Their
bodies were pressed together, and though he hadn't kissed her back, he wanted
to. She felt the evidence pressed against her belly.
"Bad idea," he growled, his
lips still touching hers, teasing, tempting.
"Oh, yeah?" She could hardly
breathe. Every nerve tingled with awareness, desperate for his touch, his kiss.
More. More of everything.
Her heart throbbed in her chest.
T.J.'s eyes smoldered into hers, his
pupils blown with lust. His body vibrated with tension, his arms like steel
bands around her. "Yeah."
"Then send me home." She
wiggled in his arms, pressing into his erection, tempting him, willing him to
kiss her back. Just for tonight.
She needed to be kissed. She needed to feel.
And he could make her...
His lips crushed hers, taking her so
suddenly, so thoroughly, that she didn't have time to draw a breath. She heard
herself groan, felt the desire inside her explode into something so completely
out of control it almost frightened her.
Her back slammed into the wall, and her
legs wrapped around his waist. His tongue plunged into her mouth, gliding
against hers in a rhythm so perfect she shuddered in his arms. He lifted her
hips, grinding himself against her until her eyes rolled back in her head,
and...
Holy shit, holy shit.
She must have lost her mind. Her body
burned, quaked, shook for him, and he felt so fucking good. He tasted like sin,
sweet and sexy, like leather and cowboy boots, and...
Holy shit.
She needed more. She needed everything.
She needed him buried deep inside her, groaning her name as he drove her over
the edge, as he came inside her, and...
Holy shit.
This was completely out of control.
"Holy shit." The words came
from T.J.'s lips, not her own, as he tore his mouth from hers and speared her with
his gaze. He panted for breath, his body coiled against hers, so hard, so
ready. She felt every inch of him still pressed between her legs, right where
her body burned hottest for him. "What the hell was that?"
She laughed. "If you don't know,
then you're more out of practice than I am."

So when she learns that Evan is looking to move home, she does everything she can to help him and Lyon re-build their lives at the Cove. But when sparks start to fly between Charlotte and Evan it's the first glimpse of something bright and beautiful either of them has seen in far too long. And they start to wonder if fate has offered them a second chance at happiness-- if only their brave enough to take the risk and let love back into their lives.
Book Excerpt:
“Know why I moved here?” he asked, keeping his voice low.
She wrenched her eyes from his and focused on a spot over
his shoulder.
“Because you didn’t want to live in Columbus anymore.”
That’s what he’d told her. That he wanted a change. That he and Lyon had
outgrown the house. And, she imagined it’d be hard to live in the house where
Rae had passed.
“Um…”
His fingers grazed her jaw and turned her head, his palm
moving to her neck where he cupped her nape and forced her eyes to his.
Reluctantly, she met them.
“Rae’s more alive when you’re around, Ace.”
Her heart, oh her heart. Kicking against her chest in a
confusing, hectic rhythm.
“You bring her to life for Lyon—more than anyone else. I
need him to remember her because he can’t remember her alive.” His hold stayed,
his palm warming her neck, his gaze unwavering.
She tried to separate the two feelings she was having—one
that she was now talking about Rae with Evan and two, that he was touching her
while talking about Rae.
Before she could, his lips closed over hers.
Her thoughts short-circuited.
This wasn’t anything like a soft peck hello. This was his
lips moving over hers, slanting over hers, warm and firm and then his mouth
opened and—
Oh my gosh!
His wet, warm tongue slid along the seam of her lips and she
stopped being passive and started kissing him back. When she would have touched
her tongue to his, he relocated it, running along her bottom lip instead and
tugging with his teeth.
If she’d been standing, her knees would have given out and
dropped her right on her butt.
And then there was the palm on her neck, now spearing up
through her hair and clutching onto a handful of it. He held her captive, his
hand fisting her hair as he angled his mouth again. In response to the soft
whimper escaping her throat, he swept his tongue into her mouth. He tangled his
tongue with hers once, twice, and released her.
When he pulled his mouth away, a long, satisfied sigh
escaped her lips. Because that was a
kiss. A kiss to rival all other kisses.
She opened her eyes to realize A) she’d closed her eyes and
B) she’d at some point wrapped both hands around his forearms where she was
holding tight and C) Evan looked as please as she felt.
“God damn, Ace.
Your mouth.” His eyes flicked to her lips. Lips still tingling from the rough
scrape from the stubble surrounding his.
She concurred with that sentiment. Not that she said
anything. She’d gone dumb; completely mute.
He backed away, but held onto her chin and tweaked it
lightly with the rough pad of one thumb. “That’s
the way this is gonna go from now on.”
Her breathing went shallow, her thoughts went muzzy and her
head blurred as her heart palpated to the point of panic attack.
“Sorry, Rae.”
She didn’t mean to say it, and it had only been a whisper,
but by the look twisting Evan’s face—the angry
look twisting his face—he’d heard. And he hadn’t liked what he’d heard.
“Sorry,” she said to him this time. “I should go.”
Unbelievably, he leaned closer.
She pulled her chin back until she realized she likely had a double chin, then
settled her head on her neck in a more reasonable position.
Gosh. He was making her crazy.
Jessica Lemmon has always been a dreamer. At some point, she decided head-in-the-clouds thinking was childish, went out, and got herself a job . . . and then she got another one because that one was lousy. And when that one stopped being fulfilling, she went out and got another . . . and another. Soon it became apparent she'd only be truly happy doing what she loved. And since "eating potato chips" isn't a viable career, she opted to become a writer. With fire in her heart, she dusted off a book she'd started years prior, finished it, and submitted it. It may have been the worst book ever, but it didn't stop her from writing another one. Now she has several books finished, several more started, and even more marinating in her brain (which currently resides in the clouds, thankyouverymuch), and she couldn't be happier. She firmly believes God gifts us with talents for a purpose, and with His help, you can create the life you want. (While eating potato chips.)

Book Excerpt:
"I think it’s time you
returned to your room."
He spoke the words without
passion. She could only assume he’d had enough talking and wanted her to leave.
The night air chilled her skin, and she wrapped her arms around her waist for
warmth. She felt rebuffed by him. Stung. Her husband, the man with whom she
would spend the rest of her days, did not have the slightest interest in
spending a moment more in her company.
She knew she ought to calmly say ‘Very
well then, I bid you good night,’ and quit the room, but she feared with a certainty
that if she opened her mouth and attempted to utter a single syllable, her
voice would falter and reveal the confused tumult of her emotions.
Not because she cared for him. Of
course she didn’t. Clearly he did not care for her.
They’d been thrown together, and
no amount of wishful thinking or good intentions would create a spark between
them, when such a spark was never intended to be. She blinked away tears.
Foolish tears! As if he had hurt her, but he hadn’t.
It had just been a long day, and
a long night before that, and she'd made a terrible mess of everything, and she
hated Quinn. And perhaps still loved him. And she was lonely. So very lonely
and frightened of what the future held.
So instead she nodded jerkily,
her chin outthrust, and turned on her slippered foot to escape into the dark
dressing closet, taking care to close the first and the second door firmly
behind her. Miss Randolph reclined in her sleeping gown and robe on the chaise
with her book open and steepled across her forehead, snoring, which was just as
well because Clarissa could not face the woman’s questions or her pity.
She doused the lamps and, in
darkness, with only the scant light from behind the fire grate to see, crawled
into bed and lay on unfamiliar sheets, her mind tangled with thoughts of… Mr.
Blackmer.
Suddenly,
the door swung open, and a shadow moved toward her, stealthily and swift, with
only the faint white swath across his hips visible in the night. She recognized
Blackmer instantly and desire ignited inside her. He
crouched above her, breathing hard, his skin still damp and the tight flex of
muscles in his shoulders darkly illuminated. The scent of the soap from his
bath filled her nostrils. Her pulse raced, her heart near exploding.
“You,”
he growled deep in his throat. “Are my preference.”
A second later, he kissed her
hard, pressing his thumb against the side of her jaw, commanding her lips to
part while his tongue boldly entered and teased. She gasped for breath, stunned
into half-senselessness…and surrendered, her mouth opening fully to accept each
deep, possessing stroke.
He gave a husky groan. His large
hands caught hers by the wrists, pinning her to the mattress. She squirmed
beneath him—but with no intent to escape.
Moments before he had dismissed
her coldly, and made her feel invisible and unwanted and yet in this moment, he
revealed his true feelings, ones he’d tried to conceal. She knew without a
doubt that her husband desired her. Something about that made her weak, and—
His mouth moved to her cheek…her
neck, leaving her skin hot and awakened wherever his lips touched. Sensations
she’d never experienced spiraled up from inside her, delicious and achingly
sweet, awakening a need in her body and rendering her unexpectedly wild.
God help her, she didn’t
understand, but she wanted him as well. The moment he released her hands she
moaned and seized his shoulders, sliding her hands upward over his neck,
finding unexpected appreciation in the powerful contraction and flux of his
muscles beneath her palms. He exhaled, filling her mouth with his breath, and
sucked her bottom lip—
Only to groan and twist away.
No. She reached, her hands
trailing over his shoulders and his arms, desperately wanting more. More of his
kiss, and his warm, firm skin. And yes, for him to ravish her so she would
forget—
Then nothing.
The bed creaked, relieved of his
weight. She heard his sharp exhalation of breath--a laugh, perhaps?
“Good night then, Mrs. Blackmer,”
he murmured.
Silence filled the room.
“Good night,” she answered
breathlessly.
He crossed the room, disappearing
into the dressing closet, gone the way he had come. She heard the door close.
After a long moment of silence,
Miss Randolph’s voice came from the direction of the chaise. “Well that was rather thrilling.”

Book Excerpt:
She opened a second door to reveal a bathroom fit
for a queen, with a tub and shower big enough for an army, a lovely oval sink
and mirror, and all of it done in shades of white marble.
She turned to him with a look of alarm. “Oh, Griff.
I don’t belong here.”
He merely smiled.
“Neither do I. But I won’t tell
if you don’t.” His smile grew. “I say we just kick back and enjoy all this
until they discover we’re frauds.”
She tried to laugh, but it came out in a sigh.
Before she could say more he touched a finger to her
lips. Just a touch, but they both looked
stunned at his boldness.
He lowered his hand and took a step back. “I’d better say goodnight and get out of
here.”
“Wait.” She
caught his hand and held it tightly.
“Just stay a minute more. I’m
feeling overwhelmed.”
His smile was quick and charming. “I’m feeling overwhelmed myself. But it’s not the room, it’s the woman in it.”
“Don’t joke, Griff.”
His smile disappeared. “It’s no joke. And if I don’t leave you right now, I just
might not make it out of here.”
He got as far as the door before turning to look at
her. That was his downfall. In quick strides he crossed the room and
grabbed her in a fierce embrace.
“I almost made it.”
The words were whispered against her temple as he began brushing hot,
wet kisses down the side of her face until she turned her head slightly and his
lips found hers. “I know you told me you
don’t like this.” His voice was a rough growl of desperation.
“That’s what
I said. But right this minute I can’t
tell you that, Griff.” She clung to
him. “I need you hold me, just for a
minute.”
“If I stay for a minute, it could turn into
hours. I may not be able to leave at
all. In fact, it’s already too late. I
know what touching you does to me.”
And then he took the kiss deep, nearly devouring
her.
Her body was crushed against him, her heartbeat
wildly matching his. The feel of her
ragged breath, her pounding pulse, added more fuel to the fire that raged
through him.
“Wait, Griff.
I need a minute…”
Her words barely penetrated the fog that seemed to
have taken over his control.
Instead of doing as she asked, he backed her across
the room until they were stopped by the press of the wall against her
back. They barely noticed the bump of
their bodies as they continued the kiss until they were nearly crawling inside
each other’s skin.
He was so hot he could barely catch a breath. Lifting his head, he breathed deeply before
lowering his face to hers. “I could stay
the night. I could…”
She lifted a hand to his mouth. “Wait.
Stop. I need to think.”
“I can’t think.
My brain…” He sucked in air,
hoping to clear his mind.
“We can’t do this.”
She put a hand to his chest.
“I know. I
know.” He caught her hand in his. “I’ll go.”
As he started to turn away she lifted herself on tip
toe to brush his mouth with hers. “I
don’t want you to, but I know I need to send you away.”
He half-turned back to her. “I don’t have to…”
“Yes.
No.” She breathed deeply. “Yes.
Go.”
His hands closed around her shoulders. “Was that no?
Or go?”
She looked up at the same moment he looked
down. They bumped noses, then both burst
into laughter.
They laughed so hard they clung together, shaking
and laughing.
He pressed his forehead to hers and managed another
shaky breath. “Okay. At least I know we’re both crazy.” He held her a little away and stared deeply
into her eyes before giving a groan.
“I’m going now. Just…” He backed away. “…don’t touch me or I won’t make it.”
She stayed where she was, watching as he backed
across the room. Straightening his
shoulders he turned and opened the door.
He stepped out and pulled it firmly shut behind him.

I will give the author credit for writting about a place that people normally dont learn about and I did learn an interesting fact from this book that I didnt know before: the Rubix Cube was invented in Hungray but other that that my impression of this book series is still the same. Theyre books that dont give you much information about the country and the illustrations are horrible. Theyre almost like book reports in a way that someone published and now theyre making money off them.
My final verdict: I would not recommend this book. I do not think its very well made and not worth the price nor time.
Welcome to Hungary! Join Carole P. Roman and learn about this beautiful country in Central Europe. Packed with colorful illustrations, children will learn about the sights, currency, food, and even a few Hungarian words. This critically acclaimed series has been embraced by children, parents, and educators. Deceptively simple, it is jam packed with a vast array of information to ignite any child's interest in the world around them. If You Were Me and Lived in...India- Five Stars ForeWord Review "Roman's If You Were Me books have a simple, winning formula: portray children from other countries and explain how familiar items and customs are the same, and how they differ, in the country being discussed... The appeal of Roman's If You Were Me series is that this information is not offered in the bland style of an encyclopedia entry, but rather as part of a tour of real life in India...It's this organic conversational tone that keeps the book interesting and inspires kids' own curiosity for other cultures." Peter Dabbene The Foreword Review "In Roman's latest installment of her cultural series, she transports readers to India, where she takes them on a whirlwind, detailed tour. Geared towards young readers, the story also works as a primer for readers of all ages...A colorful, engaging holidays and Roman's stories help them realize how much we have in common." My Review:
To be truthfully honest this book didnt grab me. I was well written but I don't know I just wasn't impressed with it. I have liked some of the other books this author has writtten and I think his paranormal books are much better then his sci-fi books but as I said before I didnt enjoy this one. I think because I felt like this had been done before plot wise and in a way it was also trying to be a bit like Moby Dick (which is ok but not one of my favorite classics). I mean its ok trying to emmulate other things you have read but for me it was like "ok I get it". I was so sad I didnt like this book after I read the Hanging Tree one of his novella I was so excited for what was next but this was just disappointing.
My final verdict: I think I would recommend it for someone who is a complete fan of this author because they might really like it, but for me I didnt so I cant whole-heartly recommend it.

My review:
This was another book of this authors I was sent for review but I dont know why they keep getting sent to me because I never enjoy them, this book was no exception to that opinion. I still think these books have very minimal facts that anybody could find out and write about. This fact also makes me question here authority on these books. She is writting such a high volume (this being # 15) of these picture books is she just going to google and some encyclepedia and getting this information and then just using it to create her books? I still think the illustrations are very sub par as well. I am not trying to be mean here with this review I am just giving my honest opinion, I am not very impressed with these books and I dont think theyre worth the price.
My final verdict: These books are horrible I wouldnt recommend them.
