Book Description:

Every twenty years a new generation rises, but who and what defines these generations? And could current generational tags mislead and miss the point? In this insightful analysis of technology history since 1900, Dr. Rick Chromey offers a fresh perspective for understanding what makes a generation tick and differ from others. Within GenTech, readers learn how every generation uniquely interacts with particular technologies that define historical temperament and personality and why current generational labels are more fluid than fixed, and more loopy than linear. Consequently, three major generational constellations emerge, each containing four, twenty-year generations that overlap, merge, and blend:
  • The Audio Generations (1900-1950): Transportation-Telephone Generation (1900-1920), Motion Picture Generation (1910-1930), Radio Generation (1920-1940), Vinyl Record Generation (1930-1950)
  • The Visual Generations (1940-1990): Television Generation (1940-1960), Space Generation (1950-1970), Gamer Generation (1960-1980) and Cable Television Generation (1970-1990)
  • The Digital Generations (1980-2000): Personal Computer-Cell Phone Generation (1980-2000), Net Generation (1990-2010), iTech Generation (2000-2020), and Robotics Generation (2010-2030). Dive in and revel in this exciting, compelling, and novel perspective to understanding recent American generations with GenTech

My review:

As most of you know from reading post on my blog in the past, I am an avid history buff. This book provided a lot of interesting historical goodies about technology. Some of these facts were even new to me!

There were many things that I liked about this book:
  •  It was interesting and different. I don't know of too many other books  that just deal with the history of technology.
  • It was organized and easy to read.
  • It had sections and bold headings.
  • It had timelines.
  • Having the book separated like this made it easy to read and did not make it monotonous.
  • There were also images in the book.
  • The features that I listed above made the book an experience not just another history book.
  • Having a book setup this way makes it great for all kinds of readers!
  • You can tell from the book that the author did much research for this book. Research is not easy and takes lots of time and patience. I really appreciate research.

Final verdict:

Why this book may not be for everybody, I think it is worth the read. You learn a think or two and you do it in an interesting way! I would recommend it.

A Godess Among Men Blog Tour

"A Goddess Among Men is a fascinating tale of derring-do in the untamed wilds of the Amazon rain forest. Daniel Davidsohn has a writing style that is smooth, fluid and compelling. I found this story impossible to put down and completed it in just one sitting. The author’s descriptive prose of especially the rainforest, its flora, and fauna, as well as its native peoples, transported me there. I was beside the two men as they fought against horrifying deprivation and local political corruption to establish themselves in an industry where a few made a fortune and the rest either perished or were paupers, struggling along trying to survive each day. I particularly enjoyed the strong female leads in the story, especially the women that would steal Julian’s heart. All the characters were flawed and yet the author was able to arouse the reader’s sympathy and empathy even for the thoroughly crooked and, at times, despicable Alan Reid. If you like stories of generational power and wealth, this one will be right up your alley. I thoroughly enjoyed A Goddess Among Men and can highly recommend it to a wide audience."  - Grant Leishman, Author of Just A Drop in the Ocean

"Readers who enjoy literary-style writing, but with all the turns and twists of a full drama plot are certain to devour this lavish and exciting work by author Daniel Davidsohn. One of the most impressive elements for me was the character development of Christel herself, who could so easily have followed the tropes of a typical beautiful lead female, but has several layers of depth and emotional heartache that she works through as the novel unfolds. The plot is revealed at a great pace to maintain intrigue for the sins of the past, but it also has plenty of surprises and revealing interactions along the way that astute fans will pick up on. Overall, A Goddess Among Men is a very enjoyable work and is not to be missed by fans of high-quality writing and accomplished drama." -  K.C. Finn, Author of The Mind's Eye

Book Description:

From the primitive ruggedness of the Amazon rainforest to the privileged society of New York, three generations experience triumph and tragedy in this saga of loyalty, corruption, greed . . . but one woman has the power to change it all.

In 1907, Julian Welch and Alan Reid meet by chance in the jungles of the Amazon attracted by the riches of the rubber boom. Pioneers in an era of uncertainty, they form an unlikely alliance and establish the foundation for a successful empire, Reid & Welch. However, with Julian's death, the empire is left to Alan, as is the responsibility for Julian's newborn daughter, Christel.
Yet for Christel, there’s no growing up as a privileged heiress. Instead, Alan subjects her to a life few endure, much less overcome. Through her will to survive and being as uncompromising as she is beautiful, Christel puts the horrors of her past behind her and begins to build a seemingly bright future. But when the success built on corruption starts to crumble, Christel will be forced to address the past or pay for the sins of the fathers.

MY FAVORITE REVIEW OF THE KARMA CODE
Review by Jane Finch
The Karma Code by Daniel Davidsohn is a story of intrigue, murder, and unravelling the secret surrounding the Karma Code, an experimental operation that sees those seeking to use it for illicit purposes hunting down and killing any who stand in their way. It seems the only one who can prevent the Karma Code falling into the wrong hands is Candice, who hires investigator Harry Walker to help her in her quest to find her uncle’s killer, her uncle having been the first person to be murdered as the secret experiment begins to be revealed. However, Harry’s involvement turns from seeking the truth to protecting the person who hired him as corrupt figures in authority seek to extract from Candice the key to the Karma Code.
Well written, fast paced, and intriguing, this story keeps the reader in suspense as the mystery unfolds. The character of Harry is believable and the reader has empathy for him as he enters a rollercoaster of a ride which he is not quite as equipped to handle as his employer had thought. There is also a little touch of romance woven in at the end to enhance the conclusion, but not so much as to detract from the storyline and intrigue. The Karma Code is unusual and unexpected, but the characters involved in its development are believable, which gives the whole story credence. A well thought out and well planned story that was enjoyable to read, and with characters such as Harry that could conceivably have more adventures in the future.

THE THORNY ROSE MYSTERY SERIES TOUR by Lauren Carr

"The plot was original, fresh and fast paced in spite of the "traditional elements" employed which can normally be found in any other thriller of this genre. The USP of this story would be its unpredictability. When you think you have it all guessed up, the plot would change its course keeping you hooked. There were a lot of suspense twists and turns that kept the momentum up. Needless to say, the writing was simply perfect. One thing that writer needs to be lauded for is the humor she inculcated in the book. Minus those humorous parts, the book would have been one serious read." - Reviewer: Book and Ink

When investigative journalist Dallas Walker tells the couple about her latest case, known as the Pine Bridge Massacre, they realize Jessica may have witnessed the murder of a family while visiting family at the winery near-by, and suppressed the memory.

Determined to uncover the truth and find justice for the murder victims, Jessica and Murphy return to the scene of the crime with Dallas Walker, a spunky bull-headed Texan. Book Description:

Three years ago, the nation gasped in horror when the President of the United States barely escaped an assassination attempt that left two dead—the vice president’s wife and the attempted assassin.  Even after numerous investigations proved otherwise, conspiracy theorists argue that the assassin was acting on orders from the CIA, FBI, and every federal agency within a hundred miles of the capital.

Aspiring Author Dean Conway is the last person Lieutenant Commander Murphy Thornton wants to spend his Saturday afternoon when they end up at the same wedding reception table. While their wives tend to bridesmaid duties, Murphy is trapped listening to Dean’s latest work-in-project—completing the manuscript of an investigative journalist who’d disappeared months earlier.

“She was number twelve,” Dean says.

“Twelve?” Murphy asks.

“Twelve witnesses connected to or investigating The Nutcracker shooting have died either in an accident or suicide.”

Two days later, Dean dies suddenly―but not before sending a text message to Murphy:

 “13”
