My Review:

I love a lot of things, so when I say this was historical fiction, took place in Paris, and has much French influence I jumped at the chance to review it!

Overall I would have to say it was ok, but I guess in the end, I was more disappointed with it then anything. I wanted to love the book but I didn't. I think one reason was it didn't is because it did not grab my attention. It was a well written and thought out book but overall I could not find a connection between myself, the story and the characters. This as any reader knows is always a great disappointment when reading.

To try to put the book in a more positive light, I will say that its content was very accurate and believable. This is always a good aspect to have with any historical fiction novel. The characters also felt to me as well developed and thought out.

Final verdict: I would not recommend it, however I think there are people out there who would enjoy this book a lot, so I can't really say DO NOT READ THIS BOOK! I would like the readers of this post to determine if they think they would like it or not. The book is not horrible it just was not the right book for me.

I would like to thank TLC Blog Tours for letting me read and review this book. I would also like to thank them for letting me participate in this tour.

June is audiobook month!

So Im so excited to tell you that in honor of audiobook month I am having an audiobook giveaway!!! More info about the audiobook can be found below:

"We walk on fire or air, so Daddy liked to say. Basement floors too hot to touch. Steaming green lawns in the dead of winter. Sinkholes, quick and sudden, plunging open at your feet."

Displaying hollowgroundcover.jpgThe underground mine fires ravaging Pennsylvania coal country have forced 11-year-old Brigid Howley and her family to seek refuge with her estranged grandparents, the formidable Gram and the black lung-stricken Gramp. Tragedy is no stranger to the Howleys, a proud Irish-American clan who takes strange pleasure in the "curse" laid upon them generations earlier by a priest who ran afoul of the Molly Maguires. The weight of this legacy rests heavily on a new generation, when Brigid, already struggling to keep her family together, makes a grisly discovery in a long-abandoned bootleg mine shaft. In the aftermath, decades-old secrets threaten to prove just as dangerous to the Howleys as the burning, hollow ground beneath their feet.
Inspired by real-life events in Centralia and Carbondale, where devastating coal mine fires irrevocably changed the lives of residents, The Hollow Ground is an extraordinary debut with an atmospheric, voice-driven narrative and an indelible sense of place. Lovers of literary fiction will find in Harnett's young, determined protagonist a character as heartbreakingly captivating as Scout Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird.

One Murder More Spotlight

Today Im spotlighting the book One Murder More by Kris Calvin.

In Kris Calvin's debut mystery One Murder More, a beautiful legislative aide is found stabbed to death in California's Capitol building. Maren Kane, a lobbyist for a fledgling Sacramento-based toy company, is in the midst of a legislative fight that could make or break her career. She doesn’t have time for a coffee break let alone involvement in a murder investigation.

But when police arrest Maren's colleague for the crime, she's certain they have the wrong man. The cops suspect a crime of passion―love gone wrong. Maren knows that in the capital, money and power drive all things tragic and scandalous. Sex and love are little more than window-dressing.

But will she be able to prove her theory―and free her friend―before she becomes the next victim?

Kris CalvinA former local elected official, debut author Kris Calvin knows politics from the inside out. She lives minutes from Sacramento, capital city of California and has been honored by the State Assembly and the California Governor's office for her leadership in political advocacy on behalf of children.

Educated at Stanford and UC Berkeley in psychology and economics, Kris Calvin uses her training to create "characters that all stand up in an emotionally rich and gripping novel" according to Kirk Russell, critically-acclaimed author of eight thrillers.
